What is Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy?

What is Hypnosis and
Hypnotherapy?

What treatments and help does John offer?
Helping you meet the challenges of your life with hypnotherapy

My aim is to help you deal with the stress, strains and challenges of your professional and personal life.

I want you to feel better about yourself and lead a more fulfilled life by using hypnotherapy combined with tried and tested cognitive and behavioural therapy (CBT) techniques to support you in how you manage your thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

I want to help you handle and understand those issues and problems that you recognise are holding you back from achieving your ambitions.

Finding a better way

You may feel there has to be a better way of dealing with some aspects of your life and you are now motivated to take action and do something about it.

You might be searching for a solution because you have decided that you want to make a change in what you are habitually doing and thinking and also how you feel.

Perhaps you want to find a way of doing some things differently and be more in charge of your life.

Hypnotherapy can help

Both the Hypnotherapy treatment and the new skills you will learn can act as an important catalyst in transforming your outlook and taking on new ways of being, which with your commitment, allows you to achieve the results you are looking for.

Hypnotherapy can effectively help release anxiety and worry and increase enthusiasm and confidence in the future and give greater clarity about how you want to change and then make the change.

Hypnotherapy can show you that we can influence our thoughts and how we react and interpret events.

In Hypnosis we can learn that we are able to help ourselves by deciding to let go of thoughts that do not serve us and reinforce those that give us strength and support our well being.

For example, in Hypnotherapy we may begin to choose to believe a thought like “I can do this I am equal to the challenges of my life” and potentially by reinforcing this awareness we are able to put our problem into a new context and find a solution.

How your current problems may be affecting you

Your particular situation might be causing various feelings: of being overwhelmed, of unbearable anxiety, of great sadness, of blaming or being angry with yourself, others or your situation.

Perhaps you are facing a loss of enthusiasm for what you are doing accompanied by a high level of worry and an inability to think things through.

It is possible that you are going through a career change, facing difficulties in your work or indeed you may already have suffered from redundancy or perhaps you are facing demanding personal problems.

Right now you may be experiencing anxiety as a result of the current economic climate and the effect it is having on your business or professional life.

This could be anxiety about losing your position or business and this anxiety is reaching a level that is making it difficult to concentrate on taking the appropriate steps to support yourself and maybe your family as well as you know you are able to.

You may need assistance in dealing with symptoms of executive burn out and possible accompanying feelings of hopelessness, – for instance “it doesn’t matter how hard I work it will not be enough to get what I want”.

Why come and see John?

I can teach you self-hypnosis and other relaxation techniques so that you can learn how to relax and focus your mind.  This will help you make the changes you want to make in the therapy sessions and then put them into practice in your daily life.

Together we will focus on what you see is the problem you need to solve and agree a treatment plan based around cognitive and behavioural hypnotherapy approaches tailored to your specific needs.

I am committed to you receiving the help you need with hypnotherapy in as concentrated a format as possible.  Equally I want to allow you the time to achieve the change in understanding that is necessary for effective treatment and to practice the new ways of thinking and behaviour, which stay with you over the longer term.

Together we will be able to address issues to do with anxiety and stress from your work and personal life and overcome habits and phobias, insomnia, and feelings of being overwhelmed, of anger and sadness.

I am also a smoking cessation hypnotherapist and can help you quit smoking.

The unique experience I have to offer you

I have been practising and teaching meditation and relaxation techniques for over 30 years and teaching both individuals and groups. I have studied and trained in the practice and philosophy of meditation in the UK, Europe, USA and India.

Combining this experience with Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy I teach people a range of techniques, skills and therapies based on a foundation of showing people how to become focused and at ease using hypnosis.

I also bring over 30 years of senior executive business and corporate understanding to our conversations. I know from personal experience the challenges of working in highly demanding roles and the stresses and strains this can bring both at work and at home.

I know what it is like to work in environments where the business is under pressure and eventually face job loss. I understand the energy and tenacity needed to successfully find a new attractive role in the midst of a recession or indeed forge a new career path.

I bring a unique experience and expertise to the treatment and resolution of your problems.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring focused wakeful state or states of mind which you experience during hypnotherapy sessions. In hypnosis you are more easily able to take on board and visualise therapeutic suggestions given by the hypnotherapist and previously agreed with you.

It is often accompanied by a feeling of relaxation and inward attention, although in some cases it may be more appropriate that the hypnosis be given in an active and alert way.

You are at all times completely in control of your senses and thoughts.  You are free to choose what suggestions you accept during the sessions and you will remember as much as you wish to remember of the session afterwards.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a method of using hypnosis as a basis for applying a range of therapeutic approaches specifically designed for helping you deal with your particular issues.

In hypnotherapy I help you to learn how to embrace more useful ways of thinking, how to adopt healthier behaviours and how to positively transform feelings and emotions to support the healing process and strengthen your belief in yourself to deal with the problems you are facing.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy or CBH?

CBH combines Cognitive and Behavioural therapeutic practices (CBT) with Hypnotherapy where clinical evidence for their efficacy has been shown.  CBH in essence seeks to help you make the changes you wish to make; in your thoughts, how you conduct yourself and also the underlying feelings or beliefs that are involved, to achieve your therapy goals.

Cognitive techniques in Hypnotherapy deal with identifying often habitual thoughts which are unhelpful to you.  With the therapist’s assistance you take concerted action to change them into more useful ways of thinking about yourself.  Once agreed you will practise these new methods in the Hypnotherapy sessions.  The objective is to learn how to take a new more positive approach to your thinking as you go through your daily life.

Behavioural approaches in Hypnotherapy deal with identifying and changing those habits and behaviours that do not support you.  You agree with the therapist what the new beneficial behaviour would look like and try out the new behaviour in your imagination in the Hypnotherapy sessions.  This enables you to start experimenting with using the new behaviour in your daily life.
